Reference genome sequence for Caenorhabditis elegans. Caenorhabditis elegans

The reference sequence (RefSeq) genome assembly is currently provided by WormBase. The genome can be viewed in NCBI's MapViewer browser. Several other large scale projects focus on this small yet complex animal, whose cells and lineage are known and on which genetic analysis is easy. Examples include the genome wide ORFeome and interactome projects, led by Vidal; the C.elegans gene knockout project; Kim microarray and several large scale RNAi experiments by Ahringer, Sugimoto, Hyman, Piano. NCBI is working in close collaboration with the various data producing groups to provide integrated sequence and functional data for public display and use.
