York University Insect and Spider Abundance in Different Lengths of Vegetation

This experiment involved looking at the total abundance of both insects and spiders captured in different areas and lengths of vegetation in the York University Grassland. The insects and spiders were captured using the sweepnet technique, along a ten metre transect. This experiment involved fifteen replicates, in fifteen different locations all within an area that had not been trampled down or mowed by humans, and contained relatively long vegetation. The experiment was then repeated in fifteen different locations all within an area that had been largely trampled down and/or mowed down. The total number of insects captured within each sweep net replicate was counted and recorded. The total number of spiders captured within each sweep net replicate was also counted and recorded.
