Backgrounds: The gut microbiota promotes gastrointestinal health in humans. However, there is no clear literature on the impact of probiotics on the gut microbiota of healthy adults. Methods: This placebo-controlled study aims to evaluate the effect of supplementing animal Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis Bla80 on the gut microbiota of healthy adults. 112 subjects were randomly divided into (1) maltodextrin (Placebo group) and (2) maltodextrin + bacterial strain Bla80 (1) in a 1:1 ratio 1 * 1010 colony forming units/day, Bla80 group) for two groups. The intervention period was 8 weeks, and 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing technology was used to study the changes in gut microbiota before and after the intervention.Findings: BLa80 intervention can regulate the gut microbiota and significantly increase the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium spp. The results suggesting that it is able to colonize the intestinal tract. BLa80 intervention also significantly reduces the metabolic pathways associated with Biofilm formation - Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Cationic antimicrobial peptide (CAMP) resistance and other metabolic pathways associated with conditionally pathogenic bacteria and CAMP. BLa80 has the potential to ameliorate hyperuricemia. Besides, there were no adverse reactions during the trial, which was safe. Conclusions: These findings demonstrated that Bla80 can colonize the human gut and reduce the abundance of harmful bacteria. In conclusion, the potential improver function makes Bla80 a promising probiotic strain.
