The genome sequence of G. raimondii was one of the first genomes of cotton to be sequenced (Paterson et al. 2012, Nature). It contains the D-genome (diploid), a close relative to the DT-genome found in polyploid cultivated cotton. Here, we created a de novo genome assembly of a different strain of G. raimondii using PacBio, HiC, and Bionano. It was used to correct a few errors in the initial, published Sanger sequence as well as provide a genome for comparative genomics (i.e. fewer gaps).
