Reasons against microchipping pets in Japan 2023

According to a survey conducted in October 2023, the leading reason for not microchipping pets in Japan was that the pets were kept indoors. While almost 54 percent of respondents did not see the need to microchip pets that were raised in the house, around one in three owners were worried about the pain resulting from the injection. To increase animal protection and tighten regulations in the country, the government passed a bill, which requires not only imported pets but also dogs and cats from breeders to receive microchip implants as from June 2022.

根据2023年10月进行的一项调查，日本宠物未植入微芯片的首要原因是宠物被长期饲养于室内。尽管近54%的受访者认为无需对家中饲养的宠物进行微芯片植入，但约三分之一的宠物主人担忧注射可能带来的疼痛。为提升动物保护水平并加强国家法规，政府通过了一项法案，规定自2022年6月起，不仅进口宠物，包括繁殖者饲养的狗和猫在内的宠物，均需接受微芯片植入。
