Reservoir distribution dataset of China for 2015 and 2020

The 2015 reservoir data was produced using manual visual interpretation methods and Landsat data with a spatial resolution of 30 m, resulting in a total water surface area of 22, 504 square kilometers for Chinese reservoirs. The 2020 reservoir data used an automatic classification method for retrieving water body coverage types based on time series optical and SAR remote sensing data, using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data for water body extraction and shape feature calculation. Four types of water bodies were obtained with an overall accuracy of 85.5%, a reservoir accuracy of 83.4%, and a total surface area of 24, 063 square kilometers for reservoirs.
