VPRS 11797 General Correspondence Files, Crown Land Management Division ('MA' Series)

This general correspondence series was created by the Crown Land Management Division. The Division was created in 1978 by (Lands) Minister Borthwick who was not happy with how land was being managed in Victoria.The main catalyst for the creation of this Division was the Little Desert controversy during the 1970s. There was a strong emphasis in the work of the Division on conservation related issues. The Division included Coastal Management and the Mount Hotham Snow Resorts. It included regional land offices that were different to the traditional District Land Offices. The Crown Land Management Division dealt with land matters at a broader level than day to day land administration.Many committees were administered out of the Division. Examples of such committees were the Caves Classification Committee and the Mineral Springs Advisory Committee.The Crown Land Management Division ceased to function in 1985.
