La Rete termopluviometrica salentina e jonica: Cosimo De Giorgi e Luigi Ferrajolo. Storia di un'eredità scientifica

In 1891 Cosimo De Giorgi establishes a meteoric station in Taranto entrusted to the thirteen-year-old Luigi Ferrajolo (which over time becomes a meteorological and geophysical Observatory). Ferrajolo contributes to the growth of Salento thermopluviometric network with new meteoric stations, especially in Taranto. After De Giorgi's death in 1922, Ferrajolo receives this scientific legacy and establishes the Ionian Network, in agreement with the Central Meteorological Office of Rome. With the establishment of the new Ionian Province (1923), some stations belonging to Salento meteoric network therefore pass under the care and direction of the Taranto Observatory. Ferrajolo collects for several years the observations of some thermopluviometric stations in Taranto, trying to continue the work of the lamented De Giorgi.
