The paper starts from the new formula of the State Exam disciplinary test at classical high school (with co-text, text and questions) to propose a reflection on the renewal of translation teaching starting from concrete experimental experiences linked to the preparation of students for the "Olympiad of Classical Languages and Civilizations". The test given at 2019 State Exam (the first ever with the new formula) is also analyzed to highlight its merits and limitations related to the development of specific skills and competences.
