Genome sequence of Indian bread wheat 'C 306'

The C 306 is an Indian bread wheat variety preferred for its supreme chapatti making quality. The chapatti processing quality is largely dependent on grain protein and starch quality, the trait is highly complex and controlled by multiple genes which have not been studied thoroughly at genomic level. Here, we report the high quality de novo assembled genome of C 306 by combining pair-end, mate-pair and long reads sequencing libraries, at 110x coverage. The hybrid assembly covered 93% of the gene space. Repeat annotation in the assembled genome identified 34% DNA repetition. Genome wide survey of SSRs identified 5,01,321 repeat motifs. Genome wide analysis of variants with respect to reference genome annotated 69,217,536 genomic variants associated with nutritional and chapatti making qualities. The genomic data generated in this study will serve as a potential resource in wheat breeding programs to develop varieties with improved processing quality.
