The aim of this study was to optimise methods for the propagation and establishment of in vitro culture of P. olseni. The cultured cells were isolated from the green-lipped mussel, Perna canaliculus and genotyped to confirm their identity as Perkinsus olseni. We also characterized the proliferative cell cycle, assessed culture supplementation, and determined the optimal temperature for parasite proliferation. The culture was cryopreserved, and the recovery of viable cells was confirmed.
