Boise Geothermal Summer Camp

The Boise Geothermal field camp will be from May 15 to May 27, 2023. The radio-magnetotelluric (RMT) will be measured along the Cottonwood Creek valley, which extends from downtown Boise into the Boise Front Range. The RMT test results will be used to constrain the deep resistivity structure of the system (~ 2 km). In particular, the subsurface resistivity distribution can be used to estimate the porosity and connectivity of the granitic bedrock in the hydrothermal system. This estimation can help determine the thermal water storage in the system. The RMT stations will be ~500 m apart, and we will have a total of ~20 stations. At each station, the RMT data tests will take ~2 hours, and each day, we can collect RMT data at about four stations. We will ensure the RMT stations will be evenly distributed along the survey lines, so we have good coverage to constrain the subsurface resistivity structure. Data logging at each station will take at least one hour, so high-frequency electric and magnetic field data can be stacked to increase quality.
