we show for the first time that FliM, which is known to be the switch protein at the interface of the chemotaxis regulatory system and the flagellar motor in model bacteria, is essential for the assymetrical rotation of the flagellar motor and the virulence of L. interrogans. We identified Ser124 as an important residue for the switching function of FliM in Leptospira flagellar motility.
