Functionalised electrodes for the sustainable synthesis of ammonia

Ammonia, a vital chemical feedstock for agriculture, is increasingly becoming recognised as a promising carbon-free energy carrier and alternative fuel. However, current ammonia production is energy and carbon intensive. This thesis explored electrochemical methods to produce ammonia and focused on the interrelationships between the properties of electrode materials and their performance. Overall, this work advances more efficient, low-carbon pathways toward decentralised ammonia production.
