Nimble Curating: A Non-Institutional Actor-Centred Methodology of Curatorial Practice

Developed through practice-led research, this exegesis contributes a new methodology to the growing field of curatorial practice called the Nimble Curating Methodology, which is framed by non-institutional and actor-centred approaches. This proposition challenges art curatorial processes by facilitating interactions and relationships among Actors, within a mutually interdependent framework of Locality (Island), Artists, Audience, and Curator. Nimble Curating recognises how curatorial processes adapt and respond to the changing, evolving circumstances of Actors, both internally and externally. The research argues that by emphasising relationships, solidarities, and empowerment through the lens of Actors’ practice, holistic and contextual understandings of the creative process emerge as distinct from a more conventional focus on the production and presentation of work. The exegesis includes a detailed description of the Nimble Curating methodology, including elements, processes, methods and guidelines.
