The OpenSat4Weather dataset: Ku-band satellite link data for precipitation monitoring

OpenSat4weather is a five-month dataset of satellite microwave link (SML) data located in Southern France. SML data can be processed to estimate path-average rainfall intensity along a slant path from a geostationary satellite to a ground receiver. The network of SMLs includes 215 sensors, recording the received signal level (dBm) by the ground receiver with a 1-minute temporal resolution and the corresponding time stamp. The corresponding SML metadata include frequency and polarization of each link. In addition, OpenSat4weather hosts concurrent precipitation data collected from a network of operational rain gauges, weather radar products and ERA5 maps of the 0° isotherm degree height.
