Announcement of the whole genome sequence of Planococcus plakortidis

Planococcus plakortidis is a Gram-positive, non-spore-forming, aerobic bacterium commonly isolated from marine environments and recognised for its biotechnological potential, including pigment production with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. In this study, we present the whole genome sequence of a Planococcus plakortidis strain, unexpectedly isolated from the saline-alkali soil in a garden of the University Of Karachi, Pakistan. Using a BLAST search against the NCBI database, the 16S rRNA sequence shows 99.84% similarity with Planococcus plakortidis AS/ASP. The sequence was assembled to a total size of 3.305 Mb in 39 contigs and an N50 value of 915,220 bases. The genome exhibits a G+C content of 49.88%. The genome data, deposited under BioProject PRJNA1184773, may provide further insight into its metabolic pathways, genetic diversity and biotechnological potential
