Whole genome sequence of Campylobacter species

The aim of this study is to genetically characterise multidrug-resistant and virulent Campylobacter species, alongside the isolation and characterisation of Campylobacter-specific bacteriophages. This dual approach seeks to deepen understanding of the genetic mechanisms underpinning antimicrobial resistance and virulence in Campylobacter, a major foodborne pathogen linked to gastrointestinal infections worldwide. By also identifying and analysing phages with lytic activity against these resistant strains, the study explores bacteriophages as potential alternative biocontrol agents. The findings are expected to contribute valuable insights to the fields of microbial pathogenesis, antibiotic resistance surveillance, and phage therapy, offering innovative avenues for controlling Campylobacter infections in both clinical and food safety settings.
