资源简介:
This series is the copy of returns submitted to the Superannuation Board recording the death of railway employees whilst in service. The returns establish the payments owing to the officer's widow or personal representative in such circumstances. The Railway Service Superannuation Act 1910 (Act No.11, 1910) section 13 and Government Railways Act 1912 (Act No.30, 1912) section 120 states that 'where an officer dies whilst in the service, his widow, or, if he does not leave a widow, his personal representatives, shall be entitled to a refund of the deductions made from his salary and emoluments under this Part of this Act, together with interest at the rate prescribed on the amounts of such deductions from the dates when they were respectively made.'The volumes contain the following templated headings: Name, Position, Branch, Rate of Pay, Date of Decease, amount of deduction, interest and total amount. The date that this information was submitted to the Board meeting along with the chairman and secretary's signitures are also recorded. The volumes covering the war periods are annotated in red pen and record whether or not the officer was 'killed in action'.Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an in house archive consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000.When the decision was made to close the State Rail Archives the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R351. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R351 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
