LASER Africa Higher Education Institutions Assessment Survey 2019

In order to increase development research outputs from universities in countries of interest to USAID, there is a need to build research capacity within such institutions. This requires identification of key capacity strengths and gaps in these higher education institutions (HEIs), which would facilitate the design of specific mechanisms to fill some of these gaps. As such, the USAID-funded LASER PULSE Consortium, led by Purdue University, conducted a capacity assessment of the research environment within universities in selected African countries. The survey from which this dataset was derived was conducted by Makerere University, one of LASER's five consortium partners. This dataset contains cross-sectional data pertaining to 27 Sub-Saharan African universities located within 12 countries.
