The three copper plates were made from measurements with the chain and circumferenter and according to a trigonometrical survey by Sir Thomas Mitchell. The engraver was John Carmichael and the plates were republished in London in 1834 as one sheet map. The area covered is from Trial Bay to Moruya and the Wellington Valley to the sea. The plates show names of counties, settlements, houses, roads, tracks, trig. stations, rivers and creeks. (SZ89-91). 3 plates.In 1994 a special limited edition of Mitchell's Map of the Colony of New South Wales 1834 printed from the original copper plates was produced as a joint project of the then Archives Authority of New South Wales and the Association of Consulting Surveyors Australia.Note: This description, as amended, is extracted from Concise Guide to the State Archives of New South Wales, 3rd Edition 2000.
