Fraction modern 14C of a dominant Amazon palm species

Fraction Modern (FM) 14C data from five live individuals of Oenocarpus bataua Mart. (ARECACEAE) harvested in a Central Amazon old-growth forest. Structural tissues were acquired using destructive sampling carried in July 2018. Radial cuts at different heights were cleaned and polished to remove potential surface contaminants before cutting samples of approximately 1 cm3. Final samples were subjected to acid-base-acid treatment to remove non-structural compounds, then combusted to CO2 and converted to graphite for 14C measurement by the accelerator mass spectrometry by the WM Keck Carbon Cycle AMS Facility at the University of California, Irvine, US.
