Dental implants are an essential treatment option for missing teeth. However, microbiome dysbiosis causes an implant-related disease: peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Here, we analyzed 25 subgingival plaques obtained from each site of health implant, peri-implant mucositis, and peri-implantitis site 16S rRNA gene amplicon analysis. The diversities of the microbiome were similar in peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis sites, however, their networks were structured differently, being much simpler in the peri-implant mucositis site than in the others. It was suggested that the bacterial taxa in the peri-implant mucositis site have an important role in the transition from health to disease statuses.
