Salmonella enterica Genome sequencing and assembly. Salmonella enterica

We are sequencing Salmonella enterica strains containing Incompatibility group I1 (Inc I1) plasmids, isolated from different sources. Salmonella is a leading foodborne pathogen causing considerable toll on our health care and economy. Antimicrobial resistance and virulence are key characteristics of clinically relevant Salmonella strains. Mobile genetic elements like Inc I1 plasmids are associated with transfer of genetic determinants of resistance and virulence. Information from this project will give insight into IncI1 variations in different hosts. This would improve our understanding about antimicrobial resistance and pathogenicity of Salmonella strains from different hosts and can give us tools to manage them successfully.
