资源简介:
Drosophila, and Hawaiian Drosophila in particular, are extremely diverse. One of the defining features of the genus, is the diversity of secondary sexual characteristics in males, ranging from variation in cilia on the legs to major changes in head morphology and wing patterns. In 1965, Elmo Hardy reassessed the Drosophilidae of Hawaii, and based on these characters defined two new genera: Ateledrosophila and Nudidrosophila. Although females in these genera were nearly indistinguishable from other female Drosophila, the males had major morphological difference that he felt justified the formation of completely new genera. The Nudidrosophila males in particular did not have characteristic reclinate, proclinate or ocellar setae and instead possessed a front covering of short, dense setulae. Since then, these genera have been sunk back in the Drosophila genus, but Hardy's names are still used to define unique species groups. The UHIM collection, contains a number of type specimens from these groups - specimens that were originally used by Hardy to define the species in the 1960's. Please help us transcribe this special group of Drosophila from our one-of-a-kind collection here at the UHIM! **Information in this description is based off of the paper "Revision of the 'nudidrosophila' and 'ateledrosophila' species groups of Hawaiian Drosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae), with descriptions of twenty-two new species", by Magnacca and O'Grady (2008)** The total number of tasks for this dataset is: 563, number transcribed is 563 and number validated is 0. This data resource is harvested periodically into the main occurrence index.
