Freshwater Biodiversity of the Rufiji Basin Catchment

Rufiji Basin Catchment is about 177429 square kilometres in size, and is home to Tanzania’s largest rivers such as the Rufiji River and Ruaha River. The rivers and lakes in the Rufiji Basin Catchment are rich in biodiversity, and provide enormous support to human development and livelihoods e.g. through fishery and agriculture, alongside biodiversity conservation. Thus, biodiversity information sharing is needed for guiding decision-making for sustainable management of this basin catchment. Thus, we aim at providing an environment for free-access and use of freshwater biodiversity information for decision-making and everyday application in biological resource management. One of our measurable goals is to publish about 50000 records of freshwater biodiversity information for free access and use.
