Parallel independent evolution of pathogenicity across the genus Yersinia. Yersinia enterocolitica (type O:2) str. YE3094/96

Yersinia enterocolitica is an important food-borne pathogen causing gastroenteritis in humans. It is also frequently found in animals. The species is currently divided into 6 different bio-serotypes, which have different pathogenic potential and differ also in prevalence around the world. This strain was sequenced for comparative analysis of all bio-serotypes. This strain is of bio-serotype O:2a,2b,3 and is derived from an animal isolate.
