Human astroviruses (HAstV) are one of the most common causative agents of viral gastroenteritis, especially in children, with extra-intestinal manifestations. These viruses are transmitted by the fecal-oral route, implying that stool composition and the gut microbiota may impact their ability to remain infectious. This study aims to understand the role of each stool component and most importantly the role of inter-individual differences in human microbiota on viral infectivity.
