Potential Gross Economic Impacts of Creative Informatics Programme 2019/20 to 2025/26

Creative Informatics, was a partnership project which has been supporting creatives in Edinburgh and South East Scotland from 2018-2024. This independent economic analysis of the programme, conducted by Dr Mark Graham for the Data Driven Innovation Programme, looks at both realised and potential economic impact of the programme on Edinburgh and South East Scotland from it's initial impacts in 2019/20 through to projected impacts in 2025/26. The report finds that Creative Informatics has had a potential economic impact on the region of £78.5m. The methodology, assumptions, and reference data for these calculations, and their relationship to the activity across the Creative Informatics programme, is included in the analysis.   Please note: This report is being published for the frist time but includes both an initial economic analysis undertaken in September 2023 and an updated economic analysis undertaken in June 2024 close to the close of the programme. Creative Informatics (https://creativeinformatics.org/) was part of the Creative Industries Clusters Programme; a UK wide initiative designed to drive innovation, growth, and sustainability in the Creative Industries, through a first of-its-kind research and development investment of £80m by the UK government. With a focus on Edinburgh and South East Scotland, Creative Informatics was working to drive growth and sustainability in this region’s world class creative industries by supporting creative individuals and organisations to do inspiring things with data. The programme was led by the University of Edinburgh and is delivered in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University, CodeBase and Creative Edinburgh.
