VPRS 19782 Discharge Record Book, Babies for Adoption and Fostering

This series comprises a volume recording the discharge of babies for adoption and/or fostering. It is unknown which hospital created this volume, however it is most likely from the Royal Women's Hospital (VA 1241). Information regarding the baby and their mother is recorded on paper cards taped to the pages of the register. Information contained on these cards includes the birth mother’s patient number, name and address, as well as time and date of birth and sex of the baby. Also recorded are notes on which ward the baby was born in, whether the baby was passed for adoption or fostering, the date of when the baby was discharged, and details of the foster parent and social worker if applicable. At the time of transfer, the recording agency was assumed to be the Queen Victoria Hospital (VA 1254). Further evidence provided by the Department of Justice and Community Safety (VA 5252) suggests that the recording agency is The Royal Women's Hospital.
