Acidithiobacillus ferrivorans is a psychrotolerant acidophile and has been identified from cold acidic environments . It has been shown to use ferrous iron and inorganic sulfur compounds as its energy sources. The species is very important for bioleaching of metal sulfides in boreal mining areas and also an excellent species for studing the adaptation of the psychrotolerant acidophiles to the cold acidic extreme exvironments. At. ferrivorans strain YL15 was isolated in Yulong copper mine in Tibet, China. The genome of the strain was sequenced and showed similarity and specility compared to those of two other At. ferrivorans strains, SS3 and CF27 and also other Acidthiobacillus species such as At. ferrooxidans. The genome of YL15 would be the first published one of the At. ferrivorans strains in China.
