NRS-20071 | Committee Reports to Council [Junee Shire Council]

This series is comprised of reports of meetings by various committees that were presented to the Junee Shire Council. The reports have been bound into two volumes, with each committee grouped together. The reports are then in chronological order and generally consist of numbered, itemised recommendations to the Council. Also included in each report is the date of the committee meeting, the names of the persons attending and the signature of the Committee Chairman and the Mayor. Upon presentation to the Council, a committee's recommendation could be accepted, amended, rejected, or sent back to the committee for further discussion. The recommendations in the reports were not binding upon the Council unless, and until, adopted by the Council as shown in the minutes of the Council meeting.Section 109 of the Municipalities Act of 1867 (Act No.12a, 1867), which was assented to on 23 December 1867, allowed municipal councils to appoint either standing committees or occasional (special) committees, composed of councillors, and to delegate to the committees "any inquiry negotiation or arrangement or power to do any emergent act or to carry out any work which such Council may have ordered, agreed to, or directed". However, committees had to report to the Council at the earliest opportunity.The following committees are represented within this series: The Baths Committee (1943-1969), Committee of the Whole (1943-1947), The Electricity Committee (1955),The Finance Committee (1953-1969), The General Purposes Committee (1943-1958), The Parks, Gardens and Tree Planting Committee (1947-1969), The Special Committee (1958-1963), and The Works Committee (1943-1969).
