Microbial adaption to environmental stressors is critical for interpreting its ecological patterns and microbial diversity maintenance. However, our understanding is still limited to hypolithic microorganisms for their trends and mechanisms in the Gobi Desert ecosystem. Here, we investigated hypolithic microbial community in nine ecological sites along an arid gradient and two key time-nodes after hot and cold periods within an annual temporal scale, respectively, in the Hexi Corridor Gobi Desert, China.
