For articles on COVID-19 cases that involved anosmia as a variable and distinguished the data in either hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients or severe and non-severe patients untill 31st December 2020 (search terms: anosmia/loss of smell/olfactory disorders), an online search of COVID-19 portfolio of the National Institute of Health (https://icite.od.nih.gov/covid19/search/) was performed.Data selection, extraction and synthesisReports were included if they contained anosmia as a separate variable and patients were characterized in either severe and non-severe patients or hospitalized or non-hospitalized patients with prevalance information on loss of smell. Datas were entered directly into an online structured data extraction table. The estimates represent the odds ratio for loss of smell associated with known severe or non-severe cases and hospitalized or non-hospitalized cases. The proportion of known male infections and odds ratio for severity of COVID-19 infection associated with known male sex are estimated in our additional analyses. For some sources, appropriate grouping of patients were done for the easy analysis.<br>
