资源简介:
Meta-Data:Variable 1-Number of different speciesDescription: Continuous-25 quadrats, with a one meter distance between each one, were studied for 30 seconds by 4 students. Each student studied one quarter of the quadrant and noted their observation of the total number of species out loud to the student recording the data.Variable 2-Total number of different speciesDescription: Continuous-25 quadrats, with a one meter distance between each one, were studied for 30 seconds by 4 students. Each student studied one quarter of the quadrant and noted their observation of the total different number of species out loud to the student recording the data.
Method: A group of 5 students was assembled at York University (North York, ON) to study and gather four different data sets in a grass-land and wood-lot area (edge of Keele street). This data set was one of the four, and it used a 1mx1m quadrat to study the insects and invertebrates found inside, each in the wood-land area. The first quadrat was dropped randomly, and then 25 quadrats were followed each a one meter distance from the previous quadrat (measure by a transact). The quadrat was visually divided into four and 4 students used sticks in order to analyze and find insects in the dirt in their asigned quarter and each spent 30 seconds (measured on a cell-phone timer) observing and later noting their observation aloud to the student recording the data. The data was recorded as each quadrat was studied.
Hypothesis: The total number of species, and the total number of different species will be very similar in all 25 quadrats.
Predictions:1. The total number of species and the total number of different species is very similar due to the close distance between transacts.2. The total number of species and the total number of different species is zero, due to the cold temperature and the rain.3. There is a limited number of insects due to the rain and he cold weather.4. There is a limited number of insects present, because they can easily move out of the quadrat or hide due to detection of danger.
