Investigating the Interactions Between the Human Microbiome and Nanostructured Lipid Nanoparticles Intended for Use in Consumer Products
收藏资源简介:
New additives developed for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food are tested under sterile conditions, but the human body is home to an ecosystem of microorganisms essential for health – the human microbiome. Lipid nanomaterials/nanoparticles are likely to be used in products marketed globally by these three industries in the coming decade. In this work, I investigate how these materials interact with the human microbiome. I found that the microbiome can influence the effectiveness of these materials depending on the ingredients we use and the bacteria present. The findings of this work suggest that integrating the microbiome into the development process for lipid nanomaterials can prevent unexpected product failures and unlock new functionality.
