Comamonas testosteroni strain TA441 was isolated from gut homogenates of the wood-feeding termite Reticulitermes speratus. It does not grow on phenol as a sole carbon source, but it becomes able to utilize phenol after incubation with phenol for a few weeks. The draft genome sequence of the bacterium may contribute to elucidate the adaptation mechanism to utilization of phenol.
