The dataset supporting this research was derived from controlled experiments conducted in the subtropical region of Fujian, China. The experimental subjects were three species of subtropical evergreen broad-leaved tree seedlings (Schima superba, Phoebe bournei, and Cyclobalanopsis glauca). This dataset includes measurements of plant organ functional indicators (total carbon concentration, total nitrogen concentration, carbon-nitrogen ratio, non-structural carbohydrate concentration) and experimental treatment parameters (soil moisture content, duration of stress, rewatering cycle). These data were collected after simulating water stress, heat wave stress, and the removal of combined stress, covering two key nodes: 1 day after rewatering (acute recovery period) and 30 days after (long-term recovery period), including four treatment conditions: control (C), water deficit (D), heat wave (H), and combined stress (DH). The main purpose of this dataset is to assess the combined effect of drought and heat wave on the carbon-nitrogen metabolism and carbohydrate dynamics of subtropical tree seedlings, quantify the stress resistance and recovery ability at the organ level, and explore the adaptation mechanisms from the perspective of interspecific differences and organ coordination. Statistical analysis was performed using R software (version 4.3.2), including four-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA), principal component analysis (PCA), Duncan multiple comparisons, and piecewise structural equation modeling (piecewiseSEM software package).
