Defining a metagenomic threshold for detecting low abundances of Providencia alcalifaciens in canine faecal samples.

Acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea syndrome (AHDS) in dogs is a condition of unknown aetiology. Providencia alcalifaciens is however suspected to play a role in some cases of disease as it occurred in high prevalence in an outbreak in Norway in 2019. The role of this bacterium as a constituent of the canine gut microbiota is unknown, hence this study set out to investigate its occurrence in healthy dogs through metagenomics. This umbrella project consist of two projects: 1) PRJE66438 - Defining a metagenomic threshold for detecting low abundances of Providencia alcalifaciens in canine faecal samples 2) PRJE66439 - Fecal metagenomes from healthy dogs collected by the Norwegian HUNT One Health project
