资源简介:
The main objectives of the Biotic Resources Study Centre are the evaluation of the state of the country's renewable natural resources; identification of critical areas and the causes of the problems involved; quantification of the impact of the devastation of renewable natural resources; development of programmes or projects designed to rescue, preserve, improve, reproduce and develop our renewable natural resources; provision of environmental education for various sections of the population and controlling pressure on the renewable natural resources of the national marine environment. Physical and chemical data are available from the Caribbean Sea and South Pacific Ocean. Temperature and salinity near the bottom are available. Salinity is obtained by means of such instruments as refractometers of salinity and salinometers or by chemical analysis by indirect measurement of chlorinity and use of Knudsens tables. Temperature is recorded by means of thermometers and densimeters with temperature scales. Oxygen, phosphates, nitrates, and pH are available. The traditional Winkler method is used for oxygen. A model 340 Sequoia Turner digital spectrophotometer is used for phosphates and nitrates and an Orion pH-meter for pH. Finally, data on such pollutants as heavy metals, oil residues, and chlorinated hydrocarbons are available.
