资源简介:
On behalf of the Department of the Navy, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Washington, The Louis Berger Group, Inc. (LBG), conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of three areas on the north side of Pine Hill Run at Naval Air Station Patuxent River (NAS Pax River), St. Mary’s County, Maryland (Figure 1). The three survey areas cover a total of 26.5 hectares (65.5 acres). The survey was conducted for inventory purposes as part of compliance with Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). The Navy is planning to construct new laboratory facilities on two of the survey areas (Survey Areas 2 and 3). Some level of archaeological survey had been previously conducted in a portion of one of the three areas (Pogue 1983; Sara and Bergevin 2004), and additional survey was necessary to have a more complete inventory of resources. LBG’s fieldwork was carried out in May and June 2011. The Principal Investigator for the archaeological study was Gregory Katz, and the Field Director was Jason Shellenhamer. Charles LeeDecker was the Project Manager. Mr. Shellenhamer and Mr. Katz were responsible for drafting the report. Mr. Shellenhamer, Mr. Katz, and Mr. LeeDecker meet the standards set out in the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards (48 Federal Register 44738– 44739; 36 CFR Part 61) (Appendix A). Field crew for the project consisted of Jerusha McLeod, Mary Patton, Paul Stansfield, and Emily Walter.
