Inventory of sedimentary records of past hydroclimate extremes (version 1.0)

A site-level inventory of 155 published records of past floods, droughts, and dryland-wet phases (152 sedimentary records from lakes, rivers, caves, peatlands, and river-fed marine, estuarine, or lagoon settings, and 3 non-sedimentary comparison records). For each record, the inventory provides the location, archive, type of extreme, proxies, age span, resolution, dating, calibration against instrumental or historical data, the key finding, reference and DOI, and where the data are archived, along with 17 regional syntheses and databases. It includes 26 of the 27 lakes of the Alpine palaeoflood compilation of Wilhelm et al. (2022) and records from Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, Arabia, Asia, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, a lowland floodplain record from the Pannonian Basin, and Nile flood and drought records from the Nile deep-sea fan and Lake Tana. Each record has a check status, and values not yet confirmed are marked "verify". The inventory is the supplementary Table S1 of the review "Sedimentary Archives of Past Droughts and Floods: Long-Term Baselines for 21st-Century Hydroclimate Risk". An accompanying table (Table S4) classifies the sedimentary records by their readiness to serve as analogs for flood and drought risk (resolution, length, and calibration) and compares regional record coverage with population and CMIP6 projected precipitation change.
