We administered probiotics to the OVX rats with either chronic periodontitis or apical periodontitis and investigated the effect of gavage-feeding of probiotics on the inflammatory alveolar bone loss. The effect of probiotics on gut barrier and osteoimmune response were further explored to delineate the underlying mechanisms. 10-Week-old Sprague-Dawley female rats were housed under specific pathogen-free condition. All animal procedures in this study were approved by the Ethics Committee of West China Hospital, Sichuan University (license number WCHSIRB-D-2018-150). After 8weeks treatment, fecal samples were collected in the SPF-class housing of laboratory of State key laboratory of oral diseases & national clinical research center for oral diseases.
