Carcharodon carcharias CytB amplicon sequences from positive eDNA detections

This dataset contains five DNA sequences that are PCR amplicons of the cytochrome b gene from the white shark (<i>Carcharodon carcharias</i>). The study aimed to detect this species using environmental DNA (eDNA) methods, targeting the cytochrome b gene due to its conservation within the mitochondrial genome and its divergence from the closely related <i>Isurus oxyrinchus</i>. The sequences display high similarity to the target species and marked differences from the relative species. These results suggest successful detection of <i>C. carcharias</i> through water sample collection, filtration, DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequencing of the amplicons, and subsequent BLAST analysis.
