Self-Discontinuation of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis among Adolescent Girls and Young Women, Mazowe, Zimbabwe, 2021.

This is an original research article in which we determined factors associated with self-discontinuation of pre-exposure among adolescent girls and young women in Mazowe District, Zimbabwe. Our study revealed that being a sex worker, experiencing medicine side effects, being discouraged by a sexual partner, and lack of disclosure to a sexual partner were significant risk factors for self-discontinuation of pre-exposure prophylaxis among adolescent girls and young women. Adolescent girls and young women who self-discontinued pre-exposure prophylaxis were involved in behaviours that predisposed them to HIV infection.
