Dataset for: Laterality, Shot Direction and Spatial Asymmetry in Decisive Penalty Kicks: Evidence from Elite Men’s Football

This dataset supports the study “Laterality, Shot Direction and Spatial Asymmetry in Decisive Penalty Kicks: Evidence from Elite Men’s Football” published in Symmetry (MDPI). The research examines spatial patterns, laterality effects, and performance effectiveness in 212 decisive penalty kicks taken in elite men’s football competitions.Using an observational methodology, the data capture contextual, spatial, and outcome-related variables associated with penalty execution, including shot direction, target zones, player laterality, and success outcomes. The analytical approach in the associated study combined chi-square tests and temporal pattern detection (T-patterns) to identify strategic tendencies and functional spatial asymmetries under high-pressure conditions.The repository contains a single file in IBM SPSS Statistics (.sav) format, enabling replication of the original statistical analyses and supporting further research on decision-making, spatial behavior, and performance optimization in elite football penalty situations.
