资源简介:
We have transcribed data from a 1996 undergraduate student paper titled, "Long term changes in the Endocladia-Balanus community at Hopkins Marine Station, Pacific Grove, California." This paper was a research project for the Biology 175H course at Hopkins Marine Station by Ashley Simons and Erin Leydig, who were advised by James M. Watanabe. The Simons & Leydig paper includes data from a 1963 dissertation (Glynn) titled, "Ecological studies on the Endocladia muricata-Balanus glandula association in the intertidal zone in Monterey Bay, California." As such, this small dataset includes observational data from both works. Both works investigate the vertical upper and lower range limits of the intertidal red alga Endocladia muricata and it's association with the barnacle Balanus glandula and other species at several sites at Hopkins Marine Station (see photo from Glynn, 1963). In this dataset, we have transcribed data from Simons & Leydig [Appendix I], which conveys presence (+), absence (-), or abundance of species at three sites from Glynn, and includes Glynn's data at those same sites. Simons and Leydig found that Endocladia shifted lower into the intertidal zone. They also found that while the overall species assemblage was not different, there was an increase in Mytilus and a decrease in Balanus.
