Based on an herbarium specimen collected in the Santa Catharina state, Brazil, the new species Oxypetalum kassneri H. A. Keller & Funez is described and illustrated here. In addition, a molecular genetic analysis allows to propose the revalidation of O. megapotamicum Spreng., a species currently placed in the genus Ditassa R. Br.
