The land types are classified into secondary categories as follows: paddy field, dry land, closed forest land, shrub land, open forest land, other forest land, high-coverage grassland, medium-coverage grassland, low-coverage grassland, rivers and canals, lakes, reservoir ponds, permanent glaciers and snow-covered areas, tidal flats, beach land, urban land, rural residential areas, other construction land, sandy land, Gobi, saline-alkali land, marsh land, bare land, bare rock and gravel land, and others. Specifically, cultivated land (comprising paddy fields and dry lands) is categorized based on landforms into mountainous, hilly, plain, and those situated on slopes with a gradient greater than 25 degrees.
