Genomic DNA was extracted from granular biomass collected from an up-flow column reactor fed with ammonium, nitrite, phenol and thiocyanate. Partial sequences of the prokaryotic 16S rRNA gene was amplified using 515F and 806R primers, and the PCR amplicon was subjected to sequencing using the illumina MiSeq sequencer.
